Our Dreamhouse

I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide it…

Its been a long time since I have been so excited about anything 🙂 And I know you might wonder why? Well we have been looking for a house in Switzerland for our upcoming relocation in April. Buying a house in Switzerland is anything but simple as the demand far exceeds the supply of properties in and around Geneva. Companies are ever increasingly setting up their corporate headquarters in Switzerland due to favorable tax rates and often setup around Geneva as the area is extremely nice to live in. For those of you who don´t know where Geneva is located, a map of Geneva and its surrounding areas/countries is below.

In terms of distances, Geneva is 5-6 hours driving distance from Paris, Nice, Marseille, Cannes, Munchen etc. Geneva stands on the borders of France and Switzerland and is only 1 hour from the Italian border. Geneva is surrounded by mountain chains, Alps to the south and the Jura to the north. To the south, the most prominent mountain is the Mont Blanc, which is the highest mountain in Western Europe.

So back to the property search, we have been looking for a house suiting us and our ever-increasing demand in a country which has not many properties on the market and those who can be found are very Germanic, tiles on the floors, big cellar (nuclear cellars are still mandatory in Switzerland) and small rooms. Not an easy task and we have been driving our relocation assistant crazy with our questions, issues, thoughts etc 😉 So far we have bid on two properties which we have missed out on, but we have never been truly satisfied with the outcome, both because we feel that we are going back in terms of look and feel of the properties, paying more (as properties are more expensive in Switzerland) and standard. We had accepted all of those factors, until yesterday when we finally found a house sitting peacefully in the Swiss hillsides.

The house was built by an young Swiss architect for himself and his family and its a architectural brilliance. It came on the market only two days ago. We were the first to look at it and are planning to make an offer on Monday, as most things have been cleared up with the bank we are extremely excited and happy about the prospects of acquiring this property. We feel that this is absolutely the right property for us. Please keep your fingers crossed for us as we need all the luck and good fortune to get this one through 😉
